Psiphon VPN - All You Need To Know

Psiphon VPN is a legendary and popular VPN application that has served thousands of users, available on Android and PC. We all have been using different versions of Psiphon VPN and it's handler for browsing free on all networks, we've already been using it before the emergence of Tweakware VPN app, but only few cared to know how Psiphon performs it's functions or how it came to be.

Psiphon VPN

Today i want us to have the knowledge of how the Windows and Android VPN application we all have been using to browse and download unlimited files works, and there's no other source to gather this sort of information than Wikipedia.

Below is what Wikipedia says about Psiphon;

"Psiphon is an open-source Internet censorship circumvention tool that uses a combination of secure communication and obfuscation technologies (VPNSSH, and HTTP Proxy). Psiphon is a centrally managed, geographically diverse network of thousands of proxy servers, using a performance-oriented, single hop architecture.

Psiphon is specifically designed to support users in countries considered to be "enemies of the Internet". The codebase is developed and maintained by Psiphon, Inc. which operates systems and technologies designed to assist Internet users to securely bypass the content-filtering systems used by governments to impose censorship of the Internet.
The original concept for Psiphon (1.0) was developed by the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto, building upon previous generations of web proxy software systems, such as the "Safe Web" and "Anonymizer" systems.
In 2007 Psiphon, Inc. was established as an independent Ontario corporation that develops advanced censorship circumvention systems and technologies. Psiphon, Inc. and the Citizen Lab at the Munk School of Global AffairsUniversity of Toronto occasionally collaborate on research projects, through the Psi-Lab partnership.
Psiphon currently consists of three separate but related open source software projects:
  • 3.X – A cloud based run-time tunneling system.
  • 2.X – A cloud-based secure proxy system.
  • 1.X – The original home based server software (released by the Citizen Lab in 2004, rewritten and launched in 2006). Psiphon 1.X is no longer supported by Psiphon, Inc. or the Citizen Lab."

Wow! That was awesome! I never knew this much until i went searching for this article that tells the functions, capability and features of the Psiphon app which most of us know as just an Android - PC VPN application that can be for free browsing, The article explains that Psiphon does a whole lot more than that.

Hope you read that part in the article which said that Psiphon was developed by the Citizen Lab in University Of Toronto, That's very interesting and the fact the app was created in a school makes it much more interesting.

I laughed at that first line of the second paragraph which said that Psiphon was developed to support users in certain countries considered as "Enemies of the internet", Gosh! Seriously? Are we really enemies of the internet? That's not good you know.
