Simple Fix For Windows Apps Not Downloading (Pending) On Windows 8

Windows 8 is a very stable version of Microsoft's Windows operating system, however, it still has some bugs like the inability to download or update apps on Microsoft Store. Nevertheless, 70% of bugs on the Windows 8 OS is very simple to fix, fortunately, the bug that sticks your app downloads on "Pending" falls in this category of simple to fix bugs.

You may have read some other methods of resolving this error on your Windows 8 PC, but I would assume none of the methods worked, else you wouldn't be reading this. The method I'm going to share here is one that has been used and confirmed working by different users of different brands of personal computers.

This problem occurs mostly on Windows 8 and Windows 10 operating systems. If your computer is having this issue you may find it difficult to update or download new applications from Microsoft Store. If you click to download or update an app you would see a "pending" message that may never go off until you fix it by following the steps below.

How To Fix Windows 8, 8.1, Windows 10 Apps Not Downloading (Pending)

To fix this issue that keeps your app downloads and updates stuck on pending you would have to force the update service to create a new SoftwareDistribution, trust me this process is way simpler than it sounds.

1. Open an administrative command prompt by right clicking on the start button on your computer and select the Command Prompt (Admin) option. You can as well make use of any other windows console replacement you might prefer.

2. Type the following (4) commands into the command prompt one after the other, in the same window:

net stop wuauserv

cd %systemroot%

ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

net start wuauserv

3. Once you're done running those four commands listed above you should then try to install the app updates again, the apps should download successfully now.

Note: Make sure you don't quit the command prompt no matter the response you get after running the second command (it would likely not give a positive feedback but that doesn't matter). This, however, may not be the case if you used a windows console replacement, though they all serve the same purpose.

If after following the process and running the commands properly as explained here just as provided on Microsoft's page, and your Windows applications still refuses to download then you should check out for minor issues that may be preventing it. You should make sure the internet connection you're using is not set as metered, your PC won't download or update apps with a metered connection except you manually configure it to do so. Don't hesitate to share this post and also drop your comments if you run into any issue while following the procedure.
